Therapy Services

Therapy isn't just about techniques and good insights - it’s about helping you understand and feel at home in your body. My clients often have done a lot of work on their own and need some help to take their mental health to the next level.

Here are some common things I hear when people are starting therapy:

  • I am confused by why I still feel stuck - I intellectually know why I should be fine and over this!

  • I am so ashamed that I get hung up by the same relationship challenges I’ve been struggling with for years.

  • I don’t feel safe in my body and don’t believe I ever could feel safe.

  • I stand up for everyone else, but I am a doormat in relationships.

  • I don’t know how to set and enforce boundaries - I’m not even sure I know what a healthy boundary is.

  • Some emotions feel too big and scary to let out - rage, grief, hope. But I can’t avoid them anymore and feel like I am going to explode!

In our sessions together, we will work toward you being able to confidently say:

  • I make sense. I know how to avoid shame traps, and can extend true compassion to myself that both nurtures my wounds and empowers me to change.

  • I can enjoy moments of true rest and safety in my body.

  • I know my worth, and even though it’s hard, I can set boundaries from an empowered and centered place.

  • I can experience and express the full range of my emotions without fear of what will happen to me or anyone else.

  • I trust myself.

There are so many messages we get about what it means to be a “good girl” that we swallow without even knowing it. Then one day, we wake up and realize we can’t do it anymore. We can’t choke down the rage or the sadness, and we can’t martyr ourselves on the altar of everyone else’s happiness and fragility. No matter how dried up and burned out you feel, the spark of life leading back to your whole, true self is still there. Let’s find it and nurture it and build it up so you can care for yourself from an empowered place - so that when you are in relationships, it’s not at the expense of your soul.

Therapy for Women

Life is hard and terrible things happen to everyone. Maybe there’s one or two events you can point to that changed the trajectory of your life or that you have flashbacks about. Maybe you can’t point to one thing exactly - there’s a lifetime of small wounds, mean comments, patterns of emotional, physical, sexual abuse that made it necessary to be a certain way to survive. You’ve had to maintain such a tight leash on yourself to stay safe, you don’t know how to let go without falling apart.  Healing can’t be guaranteed overnight, but it is possible, and I’m committed to walking through it with you.

Painful Memories and Trauma

You feel stuck repeating the same unhelpful patterns with others. Maybe you know you deserve to be treated well, but in the moment, can come up with a thousand reasons it’s ok for other people to take you for granted and treat you poorly - which leaves you full of resentment. Maybe you need constant reassurance and drive your partners crazy. Maybe you struggle to open up and avoid honesty. Whatever it is, I truly believe your system is acting out of a desire to keep you safe. Together, we can figure out what these protective parts of you need to feel safe and open to another way of being.

Relationship Difficulties

We all have different parts warring within us. The part that wants to be vulnerable with others, and the part that fears being known. The part that feels like an angry beast locked away in the basement, and the part that puts a smile on and says everything is fine. The part that’s here looking at therapy options as a way to feel better, and the part that would prefer to drink, exercise, smoke, or zone out instead. When they are out of balance, these parts can feel confusing and even out of control. You’re not crazy - this is completely normal! I believe all these parts are rooted in a desire to help you. Together, we will get to know your internal world and what each of these parts needs us to know to feel safe and cared for, so they can all be on the same page about the best way forward.

Parts Work

You may have heard about Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) as one of the most studied and evidence based trauma therapies. You’d be right that it is one of the fastest ways to move trauma out of our bodies - but it’s a lot more than that. EMDR can treat trauma, dissociation, grief, anxiety, depression, and perfectionism, among many other mental health conditions. I am an EMDRIA certified EMDR therapist, and use EMDR as a somatic therapy that connects us to the truths our bodies hold. By using EMDR, we can rely on the wisdom of our bodies to know how to heal. EMDR is a beautiful way of combining creativity, symbolism, movement, and of linking our brains, bodies, and hearts on the journey to healing. Interested in trying it out? Come and chat - and check out the EMDRIA website to learn more of the practicalities and evidence base behind EMDR.

EMDR Therapy

Grief is a sacred expression of what we most love and long for. I offer grief therapy for those who have experienced losses due to death and illness, and also for those trying to find words for complicated grief due to betrayal, loss of innocence and dreams, losses due to divorce and breakups, retirement, and trauma. Grief isn’t neat, and doesn’t follow prescribed steps or follow a linear roadmap. Our culture lacks spaces and language for authentic and raw expression of grief, and it would be my honor to witness the reality of your grief and help you build a life that honors your loss.
